A fresh and exciting initiative is taking shape in Metro Vancouver—one that brings together European cultural societies, creative communities, and business networks under one shared banner. It’s called EuroBC Scene, and if the energy in the room this week was any indication, this is only the beginning.
The spark was lit during a recent gathering at the Polish Community Centre in Vancouver, where representatives from various European organizations came together to connect, exchange ideas, and explore how collaboration could strengthen our wider community. What started as a conversation quickly turned into a vision.
One of the voices helping shape that vision was Ivor Orban from the Hungarian Society of Vancouver—recognizable to many as “the bald guy in the green flannel shirt”—who spoke passionately at the microphone at the end of the evening.
“I think this is a start for something great—starting today,” Orban shared.
“I’m very excited for where we can take this journey. After I got home, I already hit the ground running on what I promised.”
Introducing EuroBC Scene
Inspired by the enthusiasm in the room, Orban took the initiative to create a shared identity and digital home for this growing collaboration: EuroBC Scene.
The idea is simple but powerful—one central, public-facing space where all European societies in British Columbia can promote their cultural and business events, from concerts and dance performances to festivals, workshops, and networking evenings.
“Let’s see each other’s events,” Orban said.
“So we can show up for one another, fill the rooms with friendly faces, support each other’s programs, and keep our shared roots vibrant and alive.”

Stronger Together
The goal of EuroBC Scene goes beyond promotion—it’s about presence, participation, and mutual support. At a time when cultural organizations face growing challenges, this initiative offers a way to amplify visibility, encourage cross-community attendance, and build lasting relationships across borders and traditions.
“Now more than ever, our community shines brightest when we stand together,” Orban noted.
With momentum already building, EuroBC Scene is positioning itself as a unifying calendar, noticeboard, and meeting place for European life in Metro Vancouver.
