In honour of the UN Day of Cultural Diversity, UBC Botanical Garden and Nitobe Memorial Garden invite the public to a special evening of multilingual tours, including an immersive experience in German. This one-of-a-kind event celebrates both biodiversity and linguistic diversity, offering guests the chance to explore two of Vancouver’s most iconic gardens while practicing or enjoying a second language.
On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, experienced guides will lead tours at 6:00 pm and 6:30 pm at both garden locations—UBC Botanical Garden (6804 SW Marine Drive) and the Nitobe Memorial Garden (1895 Lower Mall). Each tour will be conducted in English and another language, including German, French, Spanish, and Mandarin, making it ideal for language learners, cultural explorers, and families alike.
The German-language tour will introduce guests to the incredible biodiversity of plants native to British Columbia and beyond, while weaving in vocabulary, conversation, and cultural context for German speakers or learners. Whether you’re a fluent German speaker or simply brushing up on your vocabulary, the tour offers a unique blend of nature, culture, and education.
Tours are designed to be accessible and inclusive, ensuring that participants with varying levels of language fluency can enjoy and learn from the experience.
This initiative is part of Biodiversity Days at UBC, an annual celebration highlighting the importance of conservation, climate action, and community connection to nature.
