A new children’s adventure book series with a Canadian twist is set to launch this summer, created by the Nova Scotia-based media company Ocean of Minds Media House Ltd.. Titled “Adventure Hunters – Die Abenteuer-Jäger”, the bilingual series is aimed at readers aged 10 and up and promises action, exploration, and education — all without a screen in sight.
The debut title, “Der geheimnisvolle Vulkan” (“The Mysterious Volcano”), is set in British Columbia and features siblings Julian (13) and Juliana (12) as the brave protagonists. Their father, a geologist, takes the family to remote and exciting locations, giving the young “adventure hunters” a chance to explore hidden corners of the natural world. Their mother, a remote-working teacher, ensures that their global adventures never interrupt their education.
The story, which blends elements of geology, archaeology, and classic scouting skills, is designed to inspire kids to embrace the great outdoors and awaken their sense of curiosity. Whether it’s discovering a cave behind a waterfall, learning how to build a fire with a single match, or purifying water in the wild, Julian and Juliana model active, inquisitive living in an increasingly digital world.
“We want to offer a counterpoint to digital convenience,” says Michael Lutz, the author and co-founder of Ocean of Minds. “But without wagging a finger — just exciting stories full of discovery, courage, and wonder.”
Michael Lutz, originally from Germany, studied photojournalism in Darmstadt and journalism in Stuttgart-Hohenheim. A longtime photo reporter for news and lifestyle magazines, Lutz moved to rural Nova Scotia in 2018 and now holds both Canadian and German citizenship.
The first installment will be released on Friday, June 13, 2025, and will be available as a paperback, hardcover, and eBook. The eBook can already be pre-ordered on Amazon Canada here.
With a mission to spark real-world curiosity in young minds, Adventure Hunters is poised to become a beloved series among readers—and their parents—across Canada and beyond.
