Vancouver BC – Posted September 19, 2024 – Immerse yourself in an evening of choral serenity at St. Andrews Wesley. The Vancouver Bach Symphonic Choir and Chamber Players will perform Fauré’s Requiem and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms in a captivating setting. Enjoy the haunting beauty of Fauré and Bernstein’s music, featuring soloists Sydney Trotter, Obi Ifediora, and a treble soloist from the Vancouver Bach Children’s Choirs
Under the direction of Maestro Leslie Dala, the evening will feature local soloists and the Vancouver Bach Chamber Orchestra. Audiences will be treated to Fauré’s touching “Requiem” and Bernstein’s sparkling “Chichester Psalms.”
“Requiem”, one of the most famous and beloved work of Gabriel Urbain Fauré, a French composer, organist, pianist, and teacher; is a deeply moving and serene masterpiece, characterized by its ethereal beauty and a sense of peaceful transcendence. Unlike traditional requiems, Fauré’s work emphasizes rest and consolation rather than fear and judgment, offering a gentle, almost comforting meditation on life and death.
In contrast, Leonard Bernstein, the renowned American composer, conductor, pianist, and educator, composed Chichester Psalms, a vibrant and dynamic work that fuses Hebrew texts with a wide range of musical influences, from jazzy rhythms to liturgical melodies. Its sparkling energy, contrasting moods, and rhythmic complexity make it a captivating celebration of spiritual unity and joy.
