July 10, 2023 – Vancouver, BC – Yesterday, thanks to the invite of my good friend Kecia Boecking, I attended the “Gardenfest” of the Austria Club Vancouver in Richmond, BC. The location is on Westminster Highway, west of No. 2 Road and East of No. 1 Road.
There was Bratwurst with Sauerkraut, fresh-baked “Brezel”, a variety of cake and of course, the beverages that everyone associates with Austria, on the menu.
Entertainment included the Silver Stars Band and the AVC Dancers.
The Silverstars played a variety of traditional German and English dance numbers.
What is impressive is that this club is mostly run by volunteers.
They also have a dedicated Board of Directors led by Andy, the President.
Here are a few more pictures of the Gardenfest. I was particularly enjoying the fact that younger people were there to help carry on the tradition, as well as the “intergenerational” dancing that I observed with a grandson dancing with his grandmother, or an AVC Dancer asking someone of “advanced years” to dance with him or a daughter dancing with her father.
