The matchday experience has been reimagined through a concept known as The Last Mile, visualized here as a vibrant river of fans flowing along the False Creek seawall. This is not a static viewing area, but a dynamic, pedestrian-only spectator corridor designed to build momentum before the whistle blows. The journey begins at the Main Street–Science World SkyTrain station and winds along the scenic waterfront, leading ticket holders directly to the gates of BC Place. Along this path, visible in the accompanying image with festive, distinct banners and live entertainment, a dedicated production team will curate cultural programming and activations. This immersive walk ensures that the transition from transit to the stadium is safe, efficient, and filled with the festive spirit of the tournament.
Regional Celebration: Surrey Soccer Fan Zones
Expanding the celebration beyond the downtown core, the City of Surrey will host three official FREE Surrey Soccer Fan Zones throughout the duration of the tournament. From June 11 to July 19, 2026, these sites will offer public viewing on large screens, live entertainment, food trucks, and beer gardens to create a stadium-like atmosphere for the community. Fans can gather outdoors at Surrey Civic Plaza (City Centre), enjoy an indoor experience at the Cloverdale Agriplex, or head to South Surrey Athletic Park for outdoor viewing with tented seating. The excitement in Surrey officially launches with a massive Kickoff Party on June 12, 2026, at the Civic Plaza, specifically timed to celebrate Canada’s opening match.
Festive Zones and Public Viewings
These regional sites complement the main FIFA Fan Festival™ at the PNE Grounds/Hastings Park in Vancouver. The PNE site serves as the primary hub for the province, offering free general admission and a variety of interactive fan activations. While watching the matches on giant screens is free, fans can opt for “Premium Experiences” in the new PNE amphitheatre for reserved seating and fast-track entry. Closer to the water, the Granville Island Public Market will also host an official free outdoor viewing zone. Local businesses are encouraged to join the festivities by consulting the Community Activation Playbook 2.0, which outlines creative ideas for using flags and soccer themes while ensuring all FIFA branding rules are respected.
A City Transformed
As June approaches, the landscape of the Lower Mainland will shift to prioritize the fan experience. Significant road closures and “pedestrian-only” zones will be in effect around Pacific Boulevard and BC Place on match days to facilitate the Last Mile flow. Residents and visitors can expect a surge of activity throughout April and May as the city installs tournament branding and finalizes the logistics for safe entry and exit. This period of preparation is the final bridge to the tournament’s opening on June 11, marking a historic moment where our local seawall and community plazas become a global meeting place for fans from every corner of the earth.
The arrival of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ represents more than just a series of matches; it is a cultural milestone that will forever change the rhythm of our city. By turning a simple walk to the stadium into “The Last Mile” of discovery and activating diverse fan zones from Vancouver to Surrey, we are setting a new standard for how a host region connects with its people and its visitors. Whether you are waving the Swiss flag on the seawall, cheering for Germany in a local stube, or gathering with neighbors at a Surrey park, you are part of a collective history in the making. As the final whistles of May give way to the roar of June, British Columbia stands ready to prove that when the world comes to play, there is no better place to be than right here on the West Coast.
