St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church
St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at 1593 East 18th Avenue in Vancouver’s Cedar Cottage neighbourhood, is a bilingual congregation with roots stretching back more than 60 years. Founded by German-speaking immigrants, the church has grown into an open and diverse Christian community whose members come from various parts of the world, speaking many dialects and languages. A significant milestone in the church’s recent history came in May 2023. After 41 years as an independent congregation, St. Mark’s was formally received into the BC Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, with BC’s Lutheran Bishop Kathy Martin presiding at a combined German-English service of reception.
