Background Information

50 years ago, Mrs. Ruth Berndt and a small group of parents met to pass on the German language and cultural values to their children.
This core idea is still alive today and we would like to commend everyone involved with the Surrey German Language School over the years for their hard work and dedication. As Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says in his message: “You can take pride in your contribution to Canada’s cultural mosaic.”.

To celebrate this 50th Anniversary in style, the board of directors is organizing a GALA in April 23, 2022.

All family members over 18 years are cordially invited to join us for this occasion on April 23, 2022 at the Hazelmere Country Club in Surrey, BC. There will be no door tickets, so register early to save your spot before it is sold out.

A language school like our SGLS helps people to stay connected to their culture and to share it with people from other cultures. The school helps with communication between humans in our multicultural society.

Last but not least learning a language can enrich one’s personal life as well as open doors in one’s professional life.Even though I never considered myself gifted when it comes to learning languages I still always enjoyed being bilingual..

Every time has its own challenges, and this year of the corona pandemic was particularly difficult, with new challenges.But to quote my predecessor from 20 years ago Christina Stange: ”The things that are important have remained: The enthusiasm and great dedication of our principal, teachers
staff, parents and students! Thank you for that! ” Vielen Dank dafür!”

Today as in the past we are happy to see the loyalty of our families. Congratulations for successfully teaching the German language and culture that goes with it.
