The European Festival (EuroFest BC Society) is a beloved annual celebration of European culture right here in the Lower Mainland. Here’s a quick overview:
What it is: A non-profit organization that manages the European Festival, with the intention of sharing and educating Greater Vancouver residents about the diversity and richness of European culture — without having to travel to Europe. European Festival
History: The first festival took place in 1998 at the Alliance Française in Vancouver, with 10 countries participating. By 2000, it had grown to 26 countries and 3,000 visitors, and moved to Burnaby in 2001, where it attracted between 5,000 and 8,000 people annually. European Festival
What to expect: A fun day of lively cultural performances, traditional food and drinks, interactive cultural booths, a European marketplace, children’s activities, and the iconic Parade of Nations showcasing the flags and traditions of Europe. AllEvents
Recent years: In 2025, the festival returned as a free, one-day event at the Slovenian Hall in Burnaby. Participating countries included Bulgaria, Bosnia, Germany, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Czech Republic.
